What is Botox? How it works
Botox is a neuromodulator — a precisely placed medication that temporarily relaxes specific muscles in the face. When a small amount of Botox is injected into the muscles that cause expression lines (like the 11s between your brows or the lines across your forehead), those muscles relax, and the skin above them smooths out. Results begin to appear in 3–5 days, with full effect at 10–14 days. Botox is FDA-approved, has been used cosmetically since 2002, and has one of the strongest long-term safety records in medicine. It is not surgery, it is not permanent, and it does not 'change your face' — it softens the movements that create the lines, while leaving you looking like yourself, only more rested.
Pricing & packages
Botox is $10 per unit at Hello Gorgeous. Most clients need 20–30 units for forehead and 11s combined, 8–12 units for crow's feet, and 4 units for a lip flip. We give you the exact unit recommendation at your free consultation, you approve before we inject, and you only pay for the units we use. We also offer Dysport ($14/unit) and Jeuveau ($11/unit) — same family of treatments, slightly different formulations. If you've never had any of them, we'll help you pick what's right for you.
What to expect at your appointment
- Free consultation — Ryan or a senior member of our team sits with you, looks at your face in motion, listens to what bothers you, and tells you honestly how many units would address it. No pressure to commit.
- Pre-treatment: we wipe the injection sites with alcohol and use a fine needle. Topical numbing is available if you prefer, but most clients don't need it for Botox — the needle is very small and the injections are quick.
- Treatment: the actual injection takes about 5–10 minutes for a full face. You'll feel a small pinch at each injection site. We provide ice packs immediately after to reduce any bruising risk.
- Aftercare: stay upright for 4 hours. No working out, no heavy makeup, no lying flat. We send you home with a written aftercare card.
- Follow-up: come back at day 14 for a free assessment. If anything is uneven or didn't take fully, we touch it up at no charge per our policy.
Frequently asked questions
- How much does Botox cost in Oswego?
- At Hello Gorgeous, Botox is $10 per unit. Most clients spend $200–$400 per visit depending on how many areas they treat. We give you a clear unit recommendation at your free consultation, you approve before we inject, and there are no surprises at checkout.
- How long does Botox last?
- Botox typically lasts 3–4 months. Some clients metabolize it faster (closer to 3 months) and others get a bit longer. Most clients settle into a rhythm of 3 visits per year. With consistent treatment over 1–2 years, the muscles stay weaker between visits and you may find you need slightly less product over time.
- Does Botox hurt?
- Most clients describe it as a quick pinch at each injection site. The needle is very fine and the injections are fast. Topical numbing is available if you'd prefer, but most clients don't need it. If you're nervous, tell us — we'll go slower and check in with you.
- Will Botox make me look 'frozen' or 'fake'?
- Not if it's dosed correctly. Frozen faces come from over-treatment — too many units, too often, in the wrong areas. Our philosophy is conservative dosing for natural movement, especially for first-time clients. You should still be able to express emotion. We'd rather under-treat and have you come back for more than over-treat and have you look like someone else for the next 3 months.
- What's the difference between Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau?
- All three are neuromodulators in the same family. Botox is the original. Dysport tends to spread slightly more (better for larger areas like the forehead) and kicks in a day or two faster. Jeuveau is a newer formulation often called the 'millennial Botox' — same mechanism, sometimes a slightly different feel. We carry all three because some clients respond better to one than another. We'll help you figure out what's right for you.
- Can I get same-day Botox?
- Often yes. Call us before noon (630-636-6193) and we'll do our best to fit you in. Friday afternoons and weekends are usually our busiest times, but we keep some flexibility for clients who need to be event-ready.
- Is Botox safe?
- Botox has been FDA-approved for cosmetic use since 2002 and has one of the strongest safety records in medicine. The risks come from inexperienced injectors using improper technique or counterfeit product. At Hello Gorgeous, only licensed medical professionals inject, and we use only authentic product from licensed distributors. Ryan Kent, FNP-BC oversees every protocol.
- Am I a good candidate for Botox?
- Most healthy adults are candidates. We screen carefully for pregnancy, neuromuscular conditions, certain medications, and history of bad reactions to neurotoxins. Your free consultation is where we confirm fit — and we'll be honest if you'd be better served by something else (like skincare, a different injectable, or simply waiting).
- Do you offer touch-ups if my Botox doesn't take fully?
- Yes. If at your day-14 follow-up there's true asymmetry or focal under-correction, we touch it up at no charge through day 21. This is part of our standard Service Policy — every Botox client is entitled to a complimentary touch-up within the published window.
- Who will be injecting my Botox, and are they licensed?
- Your Botox is performed by licensed medical professionals, with Ryan Kent, FNP-BC — a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with full medical authority — on site as owner 7 days a week. You're not handed off to a remote MD signing off from another state. Our team has 10+ years of injecting experience in this practice.
- Is your Botox genuine, FDA-approved product?
- Yes. We use only authentic, FDA-approved neuromodulators sourced from licensed US distributors — genuine Botox Cosmetic (Allergan/AbbVie), Dysport (Galderma), and Jeuveau (Evolus). No counterfeit, no gray-market product. Counterfeit Botox has caused serious adverse events, which is exactly why we verify every vial and only inject in a proper medical setting.
- Will my Botox look natural, or frozen?
- Natural. Our philosophy is conservative dosing for a refreshed look — you should still be able to express emotion. Frozen results come from over-treatment; we'd rather under-treat and bring you back for a complimentary touch-up than overdo it. Great Botox should look like you, just more rested.
- How many units of Botox do I need?
- It depends on your muscle strength and the areas you want treated. As a general guide: forehead lines run about 10–20 units, the 11s (between the brows) about 20–25 units, and crow's feet about 8–12 units per side; a lip flip is around 4 units. Most clients treating the upper face use 20–40 units total. Men often need more because of stronger muscles. We assess your face in motion at your free consultation, recommend an exact number, and you approve before we inject — you only pay for the units we use.
- Who is Botox best for?
- Botox is best for softening dynamic lines — the wrinkles that appear when you move, like forehead lines, the 11s between your brows, and crow's feet. It's also used preventatively by younger clients to keep those lines from etching in, and for a lip flip, brow lift, jaw slimming, and underarm sweating. It is not a filler — it won't replace lost volume or fix deep static lines at rest on its own. At your free consultation we'll tell you honestly whether Botox, filler, skincare, or a combination is the right tool for your goal.
- Why can cheap Botox be risky?
- Suspiciously cheap Botox is usually a sign of one of three things: counterfeit or gray-market product, over-dilution (so you get fewer real units than you think), or an inexperienced injector working without proper medical oversight. Counterfeit neurotoxin has caused serious adverse events, including hospitalizations. At Hello Gorgeous our $10/unit price is honest and published — we use only authentic, FDA-approved product from licensed US distributors, injected by licensed medical professionals under Ryan Kent, FNP-BC. Affordable should never mean cutting corners on safety.
- What makes Hello Gorgeous different from a chain med spa?
- We're a family-owned, NP-directed practice that's been in downtown Oswego for 10+ years — not a franchise or a pop-up Botox room. You see the same experienced hands each visit instead of a revolving door of injectors, with Ryan Kent, FNP-BC, on site 7 days a week (not a remote medical director in another state). You get authentic product, honest published pricing with no membership required, conservative natural dosing, a free consultation every time, and a complimentary day-14 follow-up. Add advanced InMode technology and almost 2,000 verified reviews, and you get a level of care chains simply can't replicate.
