Mapping first — why shape beats technique every time
Clients often arrive asking for "nano" or "powder" because they saw it online. The first thing we do is not pick a tool — we map.
What brow mapping actually means
Brow mapping is the process of measuring and drawing your brow design on skin before any pigment. We identify:
- •Brow head (where the brow starts near the nose)
- •Arch (highest point — placement changes your whole expression)
- •Tail (where the brow ends — too low ages the eye; too high can look surprised)
- •Thickness and curve along the brow bone, not just the old hair you have today
We use facial landmarks — bridge of nose, pupil line, outer corner of eye — so the shape is symmetrical and proportional, not traced from a stencil that ignores your bone structure.
Nothing permanent until you say yes
At Hello Gorgeous, nothing begins until you love the shape in the mirror. We adjust together. Erase. Refine. Map again if needed.

There is no single "best" brow shape — only the best shape for your face. During consult we discuss goals, but mapping reveals what actually works.

Choose hand stroke when: you want the softest, most "grown-in hair" aesthetic and your skin supports blade healing.
Know this: stroke work is an art — spacing, direction, and depth must match your growth pattern. That is why mapping + touch-up are essential.

Nano brows (machine hair strokes)
Nano brows use a digital PMU machine with an ultra-fine needle to deposit hair-like strokes. Visually similar to hand stroke — different tool, different control.
Choose nano when: you want realistic strokes with consistent machine precision, combo designs, or when your skin/healing history fits machine work better.
Nano is not "better" than hand stroke — it is different. We decide at consult after mapping and skin assessment.

Powder brows
Powder brows use machine shading — tiny pixels of pigment that heal like a soft brow powder. No individual hairs required; the look is polished and even.
Choose powder when: you want definition without obvious strokes, have oily or mature skin, or prefer a "done" brow daily.

Ombré brows — powder with a gradient
Here is the confusion online: ombré is not a separate tool from powder — it is a style of powder shading.
Ombré brows fade from lighter at the brow head to deeper at the arch and tail, like a professional gradient makeup application. Most powder brows we perform at Hello Gorgeous are ombré-style because the fade looks more natural than a flat block of color.
Choose ombré when: you want powder density but fear a harsh, solid block look at the front.

Combo brows — hybrid brows — blend techniques:
