BioTE Hormone Therapy in Oswego, IL

Real hormone therapy with real lab work, real medical oversight, and dosing customized to your body — not a one-size-fits-all pellet.

BioTE is a bioidentical hormone replacement therapy delivered as a small pellet implanted under the skin, typically in the upper hip area. The pellet releases hormones (estradiol for women, testosterone for women and men) steadily over 3–5 months, restoring levels that decline naturally with age. For the right patient, BioTE can improve energy, sleep, libido, mood, mental clarity, and body composition. But it's hormone therapy — not a supplement — and it requires real lab work, real medical oversight, and individualized dosing. At Hello Gorgeous, every BioTE patient goes through full baseline labs, ongoing monitoring, and Ryan Kent, FNP-BC's clinical oversight. This isn't a vending machine — it's medicine.

What is BioTE Hormone Therapy? How it works

BioTE pellets are small (rice-grain sized) cylinders of compounded bioidentical hormones — estradiol for women, testosterone for women and men. They're inserted under the skin in a quick in-office procedure, typically in the upper hip area, where they release hormones steadily over 3–5 months. Unlike oral or topical hormone therapy, which produces hormonal peaks and valleys throughout the day, pellets provide consistent levels around the clock — which most patients find produces more stable mood, energy, and sleep. The dose is calculated individually based on your baseline lab work, symptoms, age, weight, and goals. There is no 'standard pellet' — every dose is customized.

Pricing & packages

BioTE programs vary by gender and lab work needed. Women's pellet implantation typically runs $400–$650 per insertion; men's pellet implantation typically runs $750–$1,200 per insertion. Initial baseline lab panel is approximately $200–$400 depending on what's ordered. Most clients re-dose every 3–5 months. We provide full transparent pricing at your consultation, with all costs disclosed before you commit.

What to expect at your appointment

  1. Free consultation — discuss symptoms, history, goals. We screen for whether hormone therapy is appropriate.
  2. Baseline lab work — comprehensive hormone panel and additional labs as needed (PSA for men, thyroid, vitamin D, etc.). We don't prescribe without baseline data.
  3. Lab review and dose calculation — Ryan reviews your labs and calculates your individualized dose. We review results with you and discuss the plan.
  4. Pellet insertion — in-office, ~15-minute procedure. Numbing injected at insertion site; small incision made; pellet(s) inserted; site closed with steri-strips. Mild restrictions on bathing and exercise for ~5 days.
  5. Follow-up — first follow-up at 4–6 weeks to assess symptom response, repeat labs at 3 months to assess hormone levels. Re-dose every 3–5 months based on labs and symptoms.

Frequently asked questions

Is BioTE the same as bioidentical hormone replacement?
Yes. BioTE is a specific brand-system of bioidentical pellet therapy — the hormones are molecularly identical to what your body naturally produces (vs. synthetic hormones like Premarin). The 'BioTE' part is the delivery system and provider network; the hormones themselves are FDA-recognized compounded bioidentical hormones.
Who is a good candidate for BioTE?
Women with symptoms of perimenopause or menopause (hot flashes, sleep disruption, low libido, mood changes, weight gain, brain fog) and men with symptoms of low testosterone (fatigue, low libido, mood changes, loss of muscle mass) are typical candidates. We screen carefully with labs and history — hormone therapy isn't right for everyone, and we'll be honest if it's not for you.
How long do pellets last?
Women's pellets typically last 3–4 months. Men's pellets typically last 4–6 months. Individual metabolism affects timing — some clients metabolize faster and re-dose sooner. We track labs and symptoms to time your re-dose precisely.
What are the side effects of BioTE?
Common: temporary soreness at insertion site, mild bruising. Some clients experience initial breast tenderness (women) or mild acne (men or women) as their body adjusts. Less common: more significant side effects from too-high dosing, which is why we use individualized lab-based dosing rather than one-size-fits-all. Rare: pellet extrusion (the pellet works its way out of the skin), infection at the insertion site.
Will BioTE help me lose weight?
Sometimes, indirectly. Restored hormone levels can improve sleep, energy, mood, and body composition — all of which support weight management. But BioTE is not a weight loss treatment. Clients with significant weight loss goals often combine BioTE with GLP-1 therapy and behavioral support.
Is BioTE covered by insurance?
BioTE is typically not covered by insurance and we don't bill insurance for this service. We work with you on cash-pay pricing and provide HSA/FSA-compatible receipts where applicable. Labs may be billable to insurance if your primary care orders them; we can also order them privately if you prefer.
Is BioTE safe long-term?
Bioidentical hormone therapy has been studied and used for decades. The risks and benefits depend on individual factors (age, medical history, family history) and proper dosing. We follow current clinical guidelines, monitor with labs, and discuss risk-benefit at every visit. Long-term hormone therapy is a conversation, not a permanent commitment.
